About the Practice
Meet your psychologist
Dr. Nora Bennett
I'm a licensed clinical psychologist and the founder of Thistledown Therapy, a private practice in Manhattan serving adults, couples and families. I'm Board Certified in clinical psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology — a distinction held by fewer than 5% of psychologists.
Before opening this practice, I spent a decade in hospital outpatient clinics and university counseling centers, working with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction and relationship distress. That experience taught me one thing above all: technique matters, but the relationship heals.
Here, you won't find a clipboard and a script. You'll find honest conversation, practical tools you can use the same week, and a steady ally for the harder stretches of life.
How I work
Care that fits the person, not the protocol
Every course of therapy at Thistledown begins with listening — a full first session devoted to your story, your history and what change would actually look like for you. From there we agree on a plan together, and we revisit it often.
- Evidence-based methods — CBT, emotionally focused and psychodynamic approaches, chosen for your goals.
- Confidential by default — your sessions stay between us, with the rare legal exceptions explained upfront.
- In person & online — visit the Manhattan office or meet over secure video, whichever steadies you.
